Timeline: Konoha has been destroyed, and restored. The dead are back to life, and the city is celebrating. But sneaky things are afoot – Danzo is Hokage and Sasuke has been declared a missing nin. Tenten is 18.

Personality: Tenten is the balancing force of Team Gai, the one with a ready smile. She’s thoughtful and analytical, as demonstrated during the Chuunin exams when she maneuvers mirrors to help Lee on the exam, as well as remembering Team Gai’s intentions to hide their capabilities until the true test came. Later on, when dealing with a water clone, once Tenten understands the premise of them she is quick to dispatch it, even from a weary state.

She’s also perky. She can keep up with Lee in good moods, and isn’t afraid to tease Neji. Upon meeting new male ninjas, she tends to check them out. Her first thoughts upon meeting Uchiha Sasuke were that he was pretty cute, and upon seeing Hatake Kakashi were that Gai-sensei lost in the looks department.

Ambitious is another way to describe Tenten. She’s determined to prove that female ninjas can be just as good as male ones, if not better. This is part of the reason why she looks up to Tsunade so much, Tsunade became Hokage.

Tenten is accepting. When Naruto defeats Neji, even though she was so convinced all along that Neji would win, she realizes that Naruto is quite capable and impressive, and doesn’t hold a grudge. A lot of people look down on Lee for his odd looks and lack of ninjutsu, but she does not. She also never looks down on Neji despite him being branch family and rude to Hinata.

Tenten is the grounding force for Team Gai. When Lee takes unnecessary risks in the second part of the chuunin exam, she shakes him to try to get sense into him. After Lee breaks the illusion of their team being ordinary genin when they go to register for the chuunin exam, Tenten reminds him of what their plan had been. While the men of the team get hyped up and will push themselves to ridiculous levels, Tenten will ask for breaks.

She doesn’t only tolerate the excessive zaniness of her team leader and Rock Lee, she accepts it. Her reaction to Gai taking off with Kakashi on his back isn’t one of shock, it’s one of resignation. Tenten expects her teammates to go over the top and to win, a faith that Gai has instilled in her. There are no moments of despair or giving up for the members of Team Gai. They know they can take on the tasks in front of them and overcome. If they’re loud or brash in the process, that’s just part and parcel of being Team Gai.

Background: Tenten was assigned to Gai-Sensei once she earned her headband, and trained hard with Neji and Lee. They were held back a year from the Chuunin exams so they would be more likely to pass.

During the written exam, Tenten thinks quickly to help Lee with the questions. She doesn’t seem to worry at all during the entire thing. At the second exam, Tenten doesn’t do a whole lot. She shows up in case Lee needs backup after rushing away, but pauses to observe with Neji when Sasuke fights.

At the pre-lim for the third part of the examination, Tenten is set to fight Temari. She leaps into battle and gives it her all. One by one she goes through her specialized scroll, but Temari takes no damage, and winds up defeating Tenten. An unconscious Tenten falls onto Temari’s fan, and was flung to take more injuries from her own weapons before being caught by Lee. Tenten is seen briefly during Neji’s fight against Naruto in the final portion of the Chuunin exams, cheering for Neji, but accepting it when he falls to Naruto.

When next we see Tenten, Team Gai has been assigned backup to Team Kakashi. They head to the Akatsuki’s headquarters under the guidance of Pakkun. They’re attacked as they approach by Kisame. She, along with Neji and Lee, attacks right away. This results in a rare miss from Tenten; her weaponry is blocked by Kisame’s blade. As the battle continues, Tenten is trapped in a water prison and can’t breathe. She and Lee are both freed by Neji. They proceed onward to the Akatsuki’s lair, and split up to deal with seals blocking the entrance. Tenten, like all of the members of Team Gai, is confronted by a clone of herself. After a difficult, exhausting battle, Tenten dispatches her clone. There is a brief confrontation with Deidara, and then that segment of battle is done. She stands a silent witness to Chiyo’s passing.

As they head home, Tenten points out that their senseis are slowing them down. She regrets it soon after, when Gai scoops up Kakashi and dashes off.

Her latest appearance in the manga is at the village, celebrating when Pain was defeated and everyone restored to life.
